Erik S. Contreras, MD
Fellowship Trained Shoulder, Elbow, & Sports Medicine Surgeon
Dr. Erik Contreras is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, sports medicine, and fracture care. He treats each patient as a whole, developing individualized treatment plans that begin with nonsurgical options whenever possible. He serves as a team physician for Saint Peter’s University Division I athletics, caring for high-level athletes across sports including baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball.
Dr. Contreras earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his orthopedic residency at The Ohio State University, treating NCAA Division 1 athletes, followed by a shoulder and elbow fellowship at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital in New York City. A member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, he has published in leading orthopedic journals, presented at national and international meetings, and authored book chapters. Outside of practice, he enjoys time with his family, traveling, hiking, and trying new restaurants.
